Terms of use

Last updated October 12, 2026

The short version

  • Countbites is free, and your food log belongs to you.
  • Calorie numbers are estimates, not medical advice.
  • Use it fairly: don't misuse or attack the service.
  • It's a small personal project, provided as is. It may change or stop, and if it does we'll give you time to download your data.

The basics

Countbites (countbites.com) is run by Sachin R., an individual (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using Countbites, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

Who can use it

You need to be at least 13. If you're under 18, please use Countbites with a parent's or guardian's okay.

Your account

  • Use a real email address you can get to. We send sign-in codes and important account messages there.
  • Keep your password and sign-in codes to yourself. You're responsible for what happens in your account.
  • If you think someone else got into your account, change your password and email hello@countbites.com.

Not medical advice

Countbites helps you keep track of what you eat. It isn't a doctor, dietitian or medical device. Calorie and nutrition numbers come from the USDA database or what you type in, and they're estimates that can be off. Goals you set in the app are your own choice, not a recommendation from us.

Talk to a healthcare professional before big changes to how you eat, especially if you're pregnant, have a medical condition, or have a complicated relationship with food. If tracking ever starts to feel stressful, it's fine to take a break. In the US you can call or text 988 any time to talk to someone.

Your data is yours

You own everything you put into Countbites. You give us permission only to store it and show it to you, which is what running the app takes. You can download or delete it any time from Settings and Account. The Privacy policy explains the details.

Fair use

Please don't:

  • Try to get into other people's accounts or data, or get around our security.
  • Overload, disrupt or attack the service, or test it for weaknesses without asking us first.
  • Scrape it or use bots, including hammering food search.
  • Use Countbites to break the law.
  • Copy, resell or rebrand Countbites itself.

Found a security problem? Thank you. Please email hello@countbites.com instead of testing further.

Our stuff

The Countbites name, logo, design and code belong to Sachin R.. Food data comes from USDA FoodData Central, a public US government database. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything (but we'll be grateful).

Changes, breaks and endings

  • Countbites is free today. If we ever add paid features, we'll tell you first, and you won't be charged without agreeing.
  • We may add, change or remove features. Sometimes the service may be down for a while.
  • If we decide to shut Countbites down, we'll give at least 30 days' notice by email so you can download your data.
  • You can stop using Countbites and delete your account any time.
  • We may suspend or close accounts that seriously or repeatedly break these terms. Where we reasonably can, we'll tell you first and let you download your data.

No guarantees

Countbites is provided “as is” and “as available”. As far as the law allows, we don't promise that it will always work, be error free, or that nutrition data will be accurate. Download a copy of your data now and then if it matters to you.

Limits on liability

As far as the law allows, Sachin R. isn't liable for indirect or consequential losses, like lost data, from using Countbites. Because the service is free, our total liability for any claim is limited to $50. Some places, including some US states, don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer protection law.

Problems and disagreements

If something goes wrong, email hello@countbites.com first. Most things can be sorted out quickly and informally.

Changes to these terms

If we update these terms, we'll change the date at the top. For important changes, we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. Keeping on using Countbites after that means you accept the new terms.
